Growing up in Lüdenscheid, Germany (Nordrhein-Westfalia – near Düsseldorf, Cologne and Dortmund) I was interested in motorsport from an early age, but it was difficult to translate this interest into active participation as accessibility on an amateur basis is far more difficult than in the UK. This changed when I came to the UK in 1998 when my employer at the time, a German bank, transferred my department to London and I met several people actively participating in motorsport as a hobby.
I took a five day intensive race course at the Silverstone Racing School whose instructors’ (racing in ALMS, European LeMans and BTCC) often harsh but necessary criticism of my driving technique made certain that I improved and stayed focused.
It was harder than I had ever imagined keeping my training Formula Ford car on a good pace and on the “black bit”. After graduating with a National B license I participated with minor success in the Silverstone Racing School Single Seater Championship. After 10 races I upgraded to National A, but had to stop racing as work commitments forced me to relinquish my hobby until I could find both the time and a race series which would allow me to ‘grow’.
I came across Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club Racing which appealed to me as it combined not only my interest in Jaguars themselves but also racing. Now in 2006, I am taking part in the Jaguar World / Classic Spares XJS Championship with my own race prepared Jaguar XJS 3.6.
